Tunica, Mississippi – The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office has concluded the investigation into the possible sexual assault that was reported at the Tunica Nursing Home.
On Wednesday, February 17, 2010, the Sheriff’s Office received a call around 4:14 p.m. asking for an officer to do a routine patrol at the Tunica Nursing Home. Upon the officer’s arrival, information was obtained on the scene from employees of a possible sexual assault that might have occurred with one of the residents. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office were notified and a formal investigation into this matter was initiated.
The alleged suspect in the possible sexual assault was located and question within an hour after the incident was reported to law enforcement officials. The Tunica Nursing home advised that they have policies and procedures in place at their facility and that it is not uncommon for a member of the opposite sex to be in the company of the residents. Even though some type of activity may have taken place, the Sheriff’s Office has concluded through its investigation that no laws were violated or broken. There will be no charges filed in connection with this investigation.
However, the Attorney General’s Office has been notified of our investigation and we are awaiting a response from their office. The Attorney General’s Office governed the laws that are in place for the nursing home.
The Tunica Nursing Home completely cooperated in our investigation and we feel the facility is secure and adequately equipped for its residents.
