02/23/2012 Local Teacher Charged with Sexual Battery |

Tunica County, Mississippi ~ Melvin T. Glass, 55, of Hernando, Mississippi turned himself in today after a probable cause hearing in Coahoma County, Mississippi. Mr. Glass was accused of fondling a student at Rosa Fort High School in late December. In a report filed by the Tunica County School District on December 19, 2011, Melvin Glass, a vocational teacher at Rosa Fort High School, reported that a parent was in his office causing a disturbance. The parent alleged that Mr. Glass had been fondling her child during school hours. After learning of this allegation, authorities with the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office was immediately notified to conduct an investigation. On February 23, 2012, Mr. Glass appeared in court for a probable cause hearing. At this time, the judge granted permission to the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office to go forward in the complaint filed against Mr. Glass. A warrant was issued for Sexual Battery. At 3:26 p.m., Melvin T. Glass was booked into the Tunica County Detention Center and appeared before the Justice Court judge for an initial appearance/bond hearing. Mr. Glass’ bond was set at $75,000. Mr. Glass remains in custody at the Tunica County Detention Center. This case will be bound over to the Grand Jury in August 2012. /r/ K.C. Hamp, Sr., Sheriff |
