On Friday night, January 30, 2015 at approximately 11:51 p.m., the Tunica County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a structure fire located at 1101 Edwards Avenue (corner of Edwards Avenue & Gay Street).
The first officer arrived on the scene at approximately 11:52 p.m. and advised the Sheriff's Office 911 Communications Center that the structure, a manufactured home, was fully engulfed and observed several people trying to gain entry into the residence. The officer further advised information received from several people on the scene that the owner of the residence was trapped inside.
The officer and several others attempted to enter the residence, but was unable to gain entry because of heavy smoke and flames from the fire.
The Tunica Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene just minutes later. Tunica Volunteer Fire personnel had the fire under control, in just minutes, and fire personnel entered the residence in an attempt to locate the owner. After searching the residence, fire personnel located the owner in the north bedroom.
Tunica County Coroner/Medical Examiner arrived on the scene and later identified the victim as Angela Starks, 38, of 1101 Edwards Avenue, Tunica, Mississippi.
The American Red Cross Office in Memphis was notified of the incident by the Tunica County Sheriff's Office in an attempt to relocate the family members that lived with Ms. Starks.
Tunica County Sheriff's Office Fire/Arson Investigator, along with the Mississippi Fire Marshal Office Investigator is working with the Tunica Volunteer Fire Department to determine the possible cause of the structure fire.
This case is still under investigation.
