Happy Fourth of July

07/02/2026

As we get ready to celebrate the Fourth of July, the Tunica County Sheriff's Office wants everyone to enjoy the holiday safely and responsibly.

Fireworks are a big part of Independence Day, but they can be dangerous, especially for children. Sparklers alone burn at extremely high temperatures and can cause serious injuries. Please make sure children are closely supervised at all times, and never allow them to handle fireworks on their own.

Fire safety is just as important. With the summer heat and dry conditions, it doesn't take much for a small spark to turn into a larger fire. If you're using fireworks, keep water nearby and properly dispose of used materials, as they can stay hot long after they've burned out.
We also want to remind everyone to celebrate responsibly. If you plan to drink, do not get behind the wheel. Make arrangements for a designated driver and look out for one another. Holiday traffic increases, and with it comes a higher risk on our roadways, so stay alert, be patient, and drive safely.

Don't forget about your pets. Loud noises and large crowds can easily frighten them, and more pets go missing on the Fourth of July than any other day of the year. Keep them secured indoors where they feel safe.

We want everyone to have a great holiday, but more importantly, we want everyone to make it home safely.
