Residential Fire Claims Life of TCSO K-9 Blade

DATE OF INCIDENT:   12-05-2020 

TIME OF INCIDENT:    2:31 P.M. (1431 Hours) 

LOCATION:                865 Franklin Cove Tunica, MS 38676 

 

DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT: 

On Saturday, December 5, 2020 around 2:31 P.M. the Tunica County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call stating a residential structure was on fire located at 865 Franklin Cove in Tunica, Mississippi.  

 

The Tunica Volunteer Fire Department, first responders, and deputies were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, TVFD found the structure fully involved. At the time of the fire, the house was occupied by 5 minors, one being a teenager. All individuals were able to safely exit the residence, prior to the residence being engulfed in flames. 

 

The residence was the home of a Tunica County Sheriff's Office Sheriff Deputy/ K-9 Handler. Tunica County Sheriff's Office Sheriff Deputy K-9, "Blade" was in the residence at the time of the fire. Blade was unable to be rescued, and as a result, this fire claimed the life of Blade. 

 

The remains of K-9 Blade were transported by the Tunica County Sheriff's Office to the Horn Lake Animal Hospital for private cremation. The cremated remains shall be returned to the Tunica County Sheriff's Office. 

 

This incident is being investigated by the Town of Tunica Police Department and the Mississippi State Fire Marshal's Office.
