Ice Storm Warning In Effect

An Ice Storm Warning is in effect for parts of the Mid-South, including Tunica County. Rain, freezing rain, and sleet are forecasted for the area, as well as ice accumulation in certain areas.
 
You can be ready by assembling an emergency preparedness kit. Here are some items to put in the kit:
-Water
-Non-perishable food
-Flashlight
-Batteries
-Medication and medical items
 
Frostbite and hypothermia are real threats when the temperatures drop. Signs of frostbite include redness or pain in any skin area, skin that feels unusually warm or waxy or numb skin, according to the CDC. Signs of hypothermia include shivering, exhaustion, confusion, memory loss, slurred speech and drowsiness.
 
Here's how you can prevent frostbite and hypothermia:
-Be weather aware
-Cover all parts of the body. Wear a hat, a scarf that covers the face and mouth, and water-resistant boots.
-Drink warm fluids or warm water
-Avoid caffeine and alcohol
-If you do get frostbite, avoid rubbing or massaging the area. Do not use a heating pad or electric blanket.
-Here's what you should to prevent frozen pipes in your home:
-Keep garage doors closed
-Open kitchen cabinets
-Drip water from faucet
-Thermostat temperature consistent
 
If pipes do freeze, you can thaw them out. Here are the best ways to thaw a frozen pipe:
-Keep faucet open
-Apply heat to parts of the pipe
