The Tunica County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for employment for the position of Deputy Jailer. This position performs work of average difficulty and responsibility in dealing with persons under confinement and includes the care, custody, restraint, when necessary, and general welfare of inmates detained at the Tunica County Jail.  

Deputy Jailers shall work an assigned shift but may be called upon to continue duties or perform work assigned on other shifts and at other times as directed. All assignments involve responsibility for recognizing the social importance of the law enforcement and detention facility functions, and for conscientious and effective performance of duties without immediate supervision.  

The Deputy Jailer position may also be known as a Correctional Officer or Jailer. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age 
  • Must be a United States citizen 
  • Must be a resident of Tunica County, Mississippi or bordering county 
  • Must NEVER have been convicted of felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history 
  • Must be free of Misdemeanor convictions for at twelve (12) months 
  • Must have NO previous or current charges of Driving Under The Influence of Drugs or Alcohol Beverages 
  • Must be able to obtain bond, as required to perform duties 
  • Must possess a valid Mississippi drivers license 
  • Must have or able to obtain Certification from State of Mississippi Jail Officer Standards and Training within one (1) year of employment
