KEEP COOL PROJECT
July is the peak of summer in Mississippi. You can expect average temperatures in the mid to upper 90's. Tunica County Sheriff's Office recognizes the risk that people aged 65 years or older are more prone to heat-related health problems.
This summer, Sheriff K.C. Hamp and the TCSO T.R.I.A.D. Program are committed to ensuring senior citizens in Tunica County try to stay cool during these extremely hot conditions. Over the last four years, the "Keep COOL Project" has helped dozens of senior citizens fight the dangers of the heat during the summer months.
This funding for box fans is provided annually through the Mississippi Leadership Council on Aging through the Mississippi Department of Public Safety - Division of Public Safety Planning. This year, we were able to give seniors summer cool down kits which included a cooling towel, electrolyte packets, water, sunscreen, and items to help avoid dehydration, sunburn and heat exhaustion.
We want to offer the following tips to you:
1. Drink more water than you think you need. Then drink more!
2. Skip outdoor activities or do them early!
3. Check on other older adults in your life and share these tips with them!
4. Make or find a cool place for yourself or your loved ones.
