On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the Tunica County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at approximately 3:15 p.m. in reference to a shooting at a residence on Tibbs Road in Tunica County. The caller reported that she had shot her boyfriend.

 

Sheriff deputies and Pafford Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject with a fatal wound. The individual was identified as 75-year-old James Larry Jr. of Sledge, MS after being pronounced deceased by the Tunica County Coroner.

 

While on scene, deputies made contact with the female caller, identified as Mattie Crockett, 82, of Sledge, MS. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment and released and was later transported by deputies to the Tunica County Jail.

 

Crockett has been charged with murder. She appeared before a judge on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, and was issued a $100,000 bond.
